When I have time, I enjoy:  Doing web sites, sewing, studying God's word, and over the past two years I've slowly been repainting and redecorating the house.

Other iVillage areas you can find me:  November 1998 Topaz Treasures Playgroup, and Family Finances, both on the Pregnancy and Parenting channel.

Favorite ways of keeping fit (form of exercise, eating plan, etc.):Running (2-3x weekly), The Firm workout videos, Tony Little abdominals.  Eating is about portion control, "lite" cooking and holding snacks and sweets to a minimum.

Has fitness/healthy living always been a part of your life?  Give a little background:  I'd never been really in shape, and never really cared about it.  I was also far from athletic and sports minded - about the only thing where I did better than average in high school was volleyball.  I'm a strong swimmer, but with the absence of pools in school and only going in the summer, that's not a year-round fitness thing.  Besides, just cutting back on "bad" foods was enough to help drop a few unwanted pounds in younger years.  However, after finding that yo-yo dieting was no longer effective for an aging body, I finally got on a regular fitness program to get weight fluctuations under control (I was up 6 pounds and didn't want to gain more), tone up, and build muscle.  That was in 2003 at age 41.  Unlike half-hearted efforts in the past, this time I'm doing it for the right reason - overall health.  I can see plenty of visible benefits, and through reading, I know there are many more unseen benefits of keeping up a healthier lifestyle.

When did you start posting here, and what keeps you coming back?  Been posting on iVillage since June 1998, and began posting here in February 2003.  I keep coming back because I've found friends here.  Really!  Although the health and fitness support here is incredible (a sigh of relief that I'm not the only woman with "off-days"), this board goes beyond that.  Most of us are near the same stage in life, close in age, and we've really formed bonds.  Our care and concern for one another spreads into other aspects of our lives and touches our well-being.  We laugh, cry, and just share together.
